Motivation Creates the Best Event Planners
Event planning can be tough. Without the right attitude and motivation, planning and executing a rich and memorable event is going to be a challenge. People who are self-motivated tend to be more organized, have good time-management-skills, more self-esteem, and confidence. Learn how to pull yourself out of a motivational slump, and keep a positive attitude towards future challenges.
Your success organizing events can be tied to your self-motivation. It is the power that drives us to keep moving ahead, and planning memorable business or private events. It pushes us to achieve our goals, feel fulfilled and improve the quality of life. Motivation can be split into four elements that make motivation what it is:
- Personal drive to achieve, the desire to improve or meet certain standards
- Commitment to personal or organizational goals
- Initiative, readiness to act on opportunities
- Optimism, the ability to keep going and pursue goals in the face of setbacks

Money Or Fun?
To understand motivation, look at what motivates you to do the things you do. Motivation changes depending on the situation, time of day, where you are in life and etc. There are two types of motivation:
- Intrinsic, where someone performs an action or task based on the perceived or expected satisfaction of performing said action or task. Intrinsic factors include personal challenges and goals, being interested or having fun.
- Extrinsic, where someone performs an action or task in order to receive some sort of reward. Extrinsic factors include money, power, good marks, reputation and etc.
Both motivators have benefits depending on the recipient. You have properly heard the phrase “Find a job you love, and you will never have to work for the rest of your life”, and it seems to have some truth to it. Research from the University of Warwick shows that happy employees are 12% more productive. Maybe because the work environment or work is motivating
Mental Steps to Motivation
To be a success you need to know how to motivate yourself. You have to keep your spirits high no matter how discouraging a situation is. It’s the best way to overcome difficulties. Here are a few effective tips to build self-motivation.
- Use visual motivators: An inspirational quote or poster can keep you focused on a change you’re trying to make in your life. A cartoon or joke can help keep you from taking things too seriously.
- Keep positive friends: There are those that will support and build you up, and those that will always try to tear you down. Spend more time with the former.
- Learn and Acquire Knowledge: Pick up books, newspapers, websites, blogs, anything with information that teaches you something you didn’t already know. Play Trivial Pursuit or watch Jeopardy. Learn something new every day. There are no such things as useless facts. If it’s part of our world, it’s worth knowing.
- Positive self-talk: One of the most powerful influences on your attitude and personality is what you tell yourself every day. It is not what happens to you, but how you respond internally to those situations. Remember what we talked about Power of Warmth in the article about People Skills? By controlling your inner dialogue, or your “self-talk,” you can assert control over every part of your life.
- Get healthy: What’s good for the body is also good for the brain. Excercise reguarly or in small intervals help stimulating the brain with fresh hormones. Also sleep enough. Our society is chronically sleep-deprived, which negatively affects our thought processes. So along with “beauty sleep,” go for the “smart sleep.” I’m sure many event planners often feel sleepy.
- Keep a positive attitude: There’s is nothing more powerful for self-motivation than the right attitude. You can’t choose or control the circumstances you’re in, but can choose your attitude towards those circumstances.
- Take a break: You don’t have an endless supply of energy and drive. Now and again you need to take some time to recharge your emotional and spiritual batteries. Take a break to daydream and come up with new creative solutions.
- Share with others: Once you are self-motivated, start motivating others. If people catch your passion, you’ll find it will drive you to new heights of accomplishment. Support and encourage others, be the cheerleader. Remember the people skills tips; it’s about them. Share your experience, by being a mentor.
Music Stimulates Motivational Behavior
Music and movies can have a powerful effect on your motivational drive to achieve something. Even scientific studies prove a strong link between mood, motivation, and music. Most people have a song or a movie scene that fills them with an undescribeable rush. Think about how people listen to music to perform better in the gym, or while studying. While the boost might not be effective for long periods of time, it can help you get into the right “zone”, where you are totally focused on tackling the workload in your mailbox.
Set up a playlist with music or movie theme songs that fits you, and that will make you positive and pumped up, but don’t pick songs that will make you break out into singer. Try using music songs without vocals, since words can be a distraction. Below is a small list of different music that might help you get in the right motivational mood or pumped up. But remember, that more complex tasks can suffer from music with vocal, so try video game music. It is designed to boost concentration and adrenalin. without the listener being interrupted from trying to understand the vocals.
